As part of its HESPAL Scholarship Scheme, the British Council held an orientation weekend in London for 64 new Palestinian HESPAL scholars starting or in the early stages of their higher education journey (PhD and master’s degrees) in universities across the UK.
The long weekend prepared scholars for the year ahead, on what to expect in their studies and life in the UK. It also enabled them to meet each other, developing a mutual support network, and discuss HESPAL with our main donor – represented by Dr Samir Jarrad from the Arab Fund.
HESPAL scholarship scheme aims to create the next generation of senior academics who can maintain international standards at Palestinian universities and develop renewed, sustainable links between Palestinian and UK universities. This is achieved by upgrading Palestinian junior academic staff through a UK-based master’s or PhD scholarship programme.
